Three months old

When did this happen? When did my little girl turn three months old? While I feel she has always been a part of my life, it is still crazy to watch her grow. She giggles and coos and kicks so much now.

I am surprised she is not mad in this photo. Normally baby girl is not a huge fan of tummy time.

Anyway this past Saturday Jessica, Tasha and I and our neighbors went up to Lawrence, KS for The Color Run. It was an absolute blast. I must say I am not in shape at all and did not train for this event. However, it is NOT timed and more about fun than going all out in running. If you have never heard of a color run, it is a 5k run where at each kilometer there is a station where they throw color on you. When I first heard of a color run I assumed it would be paint ball style throwing color at people. So not the case thank goodness. They have spray bottles filled with a dyed cornstarch mix and it sticks to you.  Tasha and I stuck together and even rolled in the powder on the ground at the pink station. Hey all the cool kids were doing it! At the end of the run they a big color festivel.  Everyone gathers in a huge group and every 15 minutes everyone throws up color! It was just such a blast.

In the end we got pelted with tons and tons of yellow! Tasha especially!

All running should be this fun. I would be in way better shape!

Besties in full out color!

On Sunday I had the day off so we could attend a class for Emmalyn's Baptism, so hopefully I will be getting all that in the works very soon. Monday Tom had off and we had a really nice day just enjoying time together as a family. Yesterday ( Tuesday) I went to this little baby boutique in Wichita for their signing time. Tom and I are working on learning baby sign language. It is said to work really well and help parents and infants communicate faster and with less complications before verbalization begins. So we are giving it a try! Can't hurt thats for sure.

I have also been in full craft mode the last few days as well. I made my sister Kylie's gift and I really hope she loves it. I think it is amazing! Also I can not believe she is almost 13 years old. She was only a little older than Emmalyn when we moved to Kansas and now she is growing up. Crazy!

Well I should probably get some sleep. Tom is snoring loud next to me. I'll just give him a few jabbs and try and fall asleep! ( I'm not mean at all). Hope to put up more pictures of Emy soon. Keep following, I will try and post more often. Alot of EXCITING things are in the Womack-Beeson Family's future!

Big update Part II

Well Since Tom has been a bit of a slacker I though I would catch most of you up.

After giving birth and getting Emmalyn to cry, I got to hold her finally and try breastfeeding. It was the most amazing experience with my mom and Tom there to help. I am so glad I let my mom be in the room, She was amazing to have and her and Tom both help more than they know. Mom left to give us some family time and we spent the next two hours in skin to skin contact with tiny little Emmalyn. She was beautiful, and I am not just saying that because she is mine. I was prepared for the squishy discolored scrunchy weird looking newborns I normally see in picture, but not our daughter she came out flawless. Minus the tiny scar she gave us with breathing.

Anyway, they were finally ready to move us to the recovery room and Tommy FINALLY got to hold his beautiful daughter after waiting for two hours.

After waiting in the waiting room for what seemed like forever I am sure ( although compared to me waiting to have her) The Beeson-Cox crew couldn't wait any longer and had to get a quick peek before heading home since it was late.

So anyway We finally moved into the recovery room and I am just going to post a few pictures of the awesome family and friends that waited SOO LONG to meet and hold little Emmalyn.

Wheeling me to the recovery room with my precious daughter

My best friend Jessica has been with me through so much of my life. So was in tears seeing Emmalyn for the first time, and burst into even more tears when we asked her to be one of the Godmothers.

Grandma Womack holding her first grandchild for the very first time.

Aunt Joely " This came out of Shayna??????" Oh Joely how you make us all laugh, you are sure to be a favorite of Emmalyns.

Aunt Kylie holding her first neice! So sweet!!

Jessica again with a few less tears!!

Aunt Jenni taking the place of Aunt Tasha while she was in Europe. Thank you so much for waiting for how long with everyone. I truly consider you a sister Jenni! Love you!

Unlce Andrew came up to the hospital the very next day so excited to see his best friends new daughter. And he was only a little scared to hold her! I think he is going to be amazing with her as well!

A little out of order. My dad holding her. Such a proud proud grandpa! Thank you so much for supporting us through all of this dad. We couldn't have done it without you and mom. Love you so so much!

Well, that is the majority of what happened in Emmalyn's first 24 hours of life. I soon fell asleep ( i was in labor for 17 hours afterall) Daddy on the the other hand woke up every few minutes to Emmalyn's every moved. The next day was full of visitors and tests and Emmalyn first shots but we finally got to go home and start our life as a new little family.

I will update again soon and try and catch up on the last two months of her life. I can NOT believe Emmalyn is two months old. SO much to share.

Big Update, Part I

Good morning all!
So, lots to talk about in this one, as in not a lot of topics but tons of info.
As most of you know, our family grew by one on Saturday 7/7/12 at about 6:25 PM Central time.
Her name is Emmalyn Brinley Womack Beeson.
But lets back up a bit here...
Friday night, Baby Momma and I were over at her parent's house for a bonfire party/get together thing. Super fun! We hung out there until pretty late, we got home a little after mid-night. Sure enough as we were leaving the usual jokes of "get that baby out already" and such were flying thick! Little did we know then that it was happening soon, like really soon. Fast forward just a couple of hours and Shayna woke up with pains in her tummy. At first she told me, "its no big deal, just go back to sleep". About 30 minutes later I woke back up, and she was in even more pain. She still thought it was no big deal and decided to take a shower to see if that'd help. We had monitored the contractions on an app on her phone, which told us she was in labor...but she figured it was a false alarm. She told me to go back to sleep and she promised she would after her shower. Me being me however, did not listen. I proceded to get dressed, get the bags ready, make sure the car seat was in, and start loading the van.
At this point, Shayna decided to turn her bath into a shower, thinking that might help lessen the pain so she could go back to sleep. It did while she was in the water, but once she got out it was much much worse. We decided then it was time to get to the hospital.
it was about 3 am at this point, and naturally I get stuck behind the two slowest cars in exsistance. They were driving side by side so I couldn't get around them, and they were doing 50 in a 55 zone. Eventually I got around them and we didn't have any other issues.
Once we got the hospital, Baby Momma was examined and admitted fairly quick. The only problem was that she was in a large amount of pain (8 or 9 out of 10). They gave her some pain med which I forgot the name of (let alone know how to spell!) and she felt better!
Then it was a matter of wait until she progresses enough to start pushing and get the epidural. The doc who gave her the epidural did an amazing job, Shyana said she couldn't feel a thing!
I'll skip over most of the boring and gross details...but basically, Shayna was a freaking ROCK STAR!!!! She never yelled at anyone, never cried out in pain, impressed our nurse with how well she was holding up, and basically made it look super easy! I can't express just how proud of her I am.
*Side note: if you ever are delivering a baby at Via Christi St. Jo...get Jamie as your nurse. She is awesome! She knew what she was doing, funny, compassionate, and made the whole experience that much less stressful!*
During some of the grossness that happens before the actual birth, Jamie noticed some Meconium. What that comes down to is that we knew we would need the NICU people in the room incase baby had gotten any in her mouth.
So, finally, at 6:25ish, Emmalyn was born.
*another side note: I did actually watch the entire process and didn't pass out or throw up. It was the coolest and most amazing thing I have ever seen. And a little bizarre too to be completley honest*
Now the fun begins right? Nope...she wouldn't be my daughter unless she did to me a little be of what I did to my parents when I was born.
The doc who delivered her gave her directly to the NICU people, who proceded to do thier thing to try and get her to cry.
She didn't.
They suctioned her mouth and nose trying to get as much of the meconium out of her airways as possible. They even had to put her on the ventilator to help her breathe.
All the while Shayna is still on the bed, and I am standing in the middle of the room, torn between should I stay with Shayna and be her support or should I try and get closer to our daughter to try and see what is going on. Shayna did have her mom there with her to help, and she had told me in advance to stay with baby girl, but I was still conflicted and terrified.
Finally, after what felt like an eternety....she cried!!!
WHEW!!!
I didnt realize, but I had been holding my breath. Later they told us that it was less than 60 seconds between her being born, and her letting out that first cry...but let me tell you, it sure felt like 60 hours rather than 60 seconds!
Her APGAR scores were 2,8, and 9. (10 being perfect). I got to joke about how out of the gate my daughter was already showing me up; she doubled my score for my first minute!

This is already a super long post, so check back for Part II, and possibly Parts III and IV depending on how long I let the other ones get!

In the mean time, have a great day!
Cheers,
Tom

Lack of Baby Update

Well, little miss Emmalyn hasn't decided to grace us with her presence. Baby Momma is still doing ok. She is so done being preggo!

Me Update

At this point I dont have much to do until Baby-time, so I tried to occupy myself with biking.
The past two rides have both gone good, with lots of climbing (as much as you can find in Kansas), lots of heat (both over 95 degrees), and lots of wind (20+ MPH winds).
I am still hovering right around 170 pounds, but I havent been eating as well or biking as much.

That's all for now, gotta get ready to enjoy the holiday!

Cheers,
Tom

Couple's weekend?

Happy Monday everyone!
I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend, that this week is starting off right, and the day is flying by. Unless you dont want it to fly by, but I seriously doubt anyone wants a loooooooong Monday.
Anyway, Baby Momma and I had our first whole weekend together, ever. So what did we do? Spent it with everyone with hardley any time for ourselves! Dont get me wrong we both loved it, but its funny looking back now on how little time we spent together.

Friday:

After I got home from work we went over to her parent's house and started to flip the third dresser Baby Momma found at garage sales. (For those of you who dont know, Shayna found 3 dressers at garage sales, ecah for $15 or less and we are working on fixing up the last one. #1 went in Emmalyn's room and #2 is in ours as will #3)

Saturday:

We are both so used to waking up early, her for work/me for training, that neither of us could sleep in past 8 o'clock! After an amazing breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and BACON!!!!! (hint: I love bacon) we started getting some stuff done around the house. During that times we decided to make a roast in the crock pot for dinner. As we started the prep for it, we realized we were making way too much food for two people, so we invited her family over. Then I remembered that I really wanted to see the new Disney movie Brave. We ended up taking her two youngest sisters (Joley and Kylie) with us. Everyone agreed it was a great movie (Baby Momma and I both started tearing up at the end). After the movie Jo, Ky, and I played Call of Duty together which was pretty darn fun! Once her parents got there we all ate dinner, which was amazing! They also brought over dresser # 2 and we are finishing the knobs on that one before we put pictures up here of it.

Sunday:

So after a busy day without much one-on-one time, you'd think we'd have make it a point to get alone time on Sunday right? Wrong! I went out for a long bike ride with a buddy from Strava (the website I upload my GPS data to) pretty early in the morning. More on the ride later. After that Shayna and I worked a little on lining the dresser drawers (a.k.a. she worked on it while I tried to not pass out on the floor). At that point I was starving, so we decided to get some Subway. We ended up having a great lunch with Jen and Camo (my sister and bro-in-law, which I feel I need better nicknames for each of them...) then went over to the Cox's amazing wonderful cool pool! The temp outside was over 100 degrees F, so the water was amazing! We splashed and lounged and floated for a while before we had to leave to make it over to her family's house for dinner over there. Dinner was amazing, and I ended up taking a quick 20 minute power nap in the recliner. That was a bad move, because tasha had a marker...and I sleep like a rock. Naurally when I woke up I had a "L" written on my forehead. Apparently I didnt even flinch! In an attempt to get the baby out, Baby Momma decided to drive the four-wheeler around the neighborhood and find the biggest bumps around. Sadly it did not start the labor process, but we did get to see a foot long black snake!

Baby update!

So, as of right now baby is still staying put. However, on Sunday Shayna started feeling what we think are the Braxton-Hicks (I hope I spelled that right...) because they are very infrequent and there are large gaps in between them. She was still having a few as of this morning, but still really far apart. Hopefully they start to get closer so little Emmalyn would get here already! I am super excitied to meet her, but I have to admit that I am still super scared. Baby Momma is ready to meet her daughter too, but I think she is just ready to be not preggo, and who can blame her?

So, the bike ride...

Nick and I decided to meet up around 8 am at Rose Hill High School. It was already 80 degrees our and the wind was about 18-20 miles per out of the south.  We took off North and went to a road that I had never ridden yet but lots of guys talk about it. And I kid you not it is called "Thunder Road", which makes me think of the movie Grease. Anyone else got "Grease Lighting" stuck in thier heads?
Any way, it was a beautiful road, and it wasn't straight! For those of you who dont know, 99% of Kansas roads are either a straight line running North-South or East-West. Once we hit Augusta, we had to turn back South and head into the wind. Normally that wouldnt be terrible because:
A) there were two of us so we could take turns drafting and
B) I have what are called "Aero Bars" that make me more aerodynamic which makes it easier to pedal through the wind.
One minor problem with all that: we were going uphill! ouch. Then by the time we get to the top to start going downhill, we were so tired that we didnt ever go faster than 16 mph because of the headwind! Rough...
11 Miles and 224 feet of climbing later...we hit Douglass. We were both so cooked from fighting the hills and the wind we had to take a quick break before going back to Rose Hill. The ride back wasn't too much easier, we had to fight the crosswind which had shifted into more of a cross-headwind, and we were going up hill again. So now 9 miles and 239 feet of climbing later, we finish. I decided to try and sprint the last hundred yards or so, but the nice tail wind turned it into a long 3/10 of a mile sprint where I topped out at 32 mph going slightly uphill. I sure paid for it after though because I could barely stand up straight in the parking lot!
Total recap for the ride:
80+ degrees F
18-20 MPH winds S to SSW gusting to about 25
36.6 miles
2 hours 13 minutes and 9 seconds
climbing a total of 686 feet
with an average speed of 16.5 MPH, max at 32 MPH.

Have a fantastic week everyone!
Cheers,
Tom

And so it begins

Hey all,
So I have been thinking that I am absolutly terrible about a lot of things. Namely:
1. Keeping people updated on Shayna aka "Baby Momma" and Emmalyn
2. Having any form of accountablity about my training/weight
3. Communicating in general about my life which is changing super fast!

I hope to remedy those issues here!!!
So just to let you all know from the get go: this is going to be one of the most random blogs you will ever read. How so you may ask? WELL.....I am not going to be the only one writing it, I plan on having Baby Momma posting her own thoughts and stuff whenever she can. I know the title is called "The Family Blog"...but that is only a temporary title until I can think of a more all encompasing name.
Not only are there going to be two authors, the subject matter is going to be kinda crazy too. Naturally the majority of it will be about Emmalyn, our day to day life as new parents, anything funny/cute/exciting/frustrating she does and of course pictures! I also plan on being a little be selfish and posting about some of my training for whatever races I have coming up that I plan on racing, not to mention tracking my goal of getting my weight back down. (A quick side note on that: before we found out we were preggos, I weighed in at around 160 lbs, after I topped out at just over 180. As of this morning I am at 173. Talk about sympathy weight!!)
I also think that Baby Momma will want to post about loosing the baby wieght, but you will have to check back on that when she gets on here.

Now on to the reason you are all here (besides my witty rambleings of course)

Baby Update!!!
Baby Momma went to the doc yesterday (Wednesday June 20th). The doc told her that little girl is being stubborn and doesnt show any signs of coming in the immediate future. On a positive note, she said that Shayna looked amazing for being 9 months preggos, and was impressed by how little weight gain there was. We are still set for a due date of July 4th (which is only a short 12 days away, yikes!!!)
If you dont know already, we have the baby room about 95% done, all thats left is hanging stuff on the walls and a last minute clean up of residual trash and stuff. We are walking every night trying to get this show on the road, and Shayna has been sitting on her "birthing ball" a lot too!

Me Update!!!

Ok so now that the important stuff is out of the way, time to touch base with me :)
As of right now, I dont have a specific race that I am training for, but I am still planning on riding The Cannon (my super slick amazing wonderful super fast super cool bike, picture later ;)) a few times a week. I am hoping to get over 100 miles a week.
Long term race goals for next summer is to finish my first Century ride. For those of you who dont know, that is 100 miles. There is the "Hotter 'n Hell Hundred" in Texas that I might do, unless I find a closer one.
The other long term goal is tentativly set for Summer of 2014:
Pikes Peak Cycling Hillclimb: formerly the "Assault on the Peak"
Yup...I plan on putting myself through 20 Kilometers of pure pain, climbing 4,720 feet. And for those of you who do not know: I am not what you would call a "climber" in the cycling sense.

I hope this finds everyone in good health and spirits, I promise to upload pictures as I get them :)
Cheers
-Tom
